Add text to a video

Text overlay puts up to five boxes of your own words on a video, in a bold outline or boxed style, at no cost.

Text overlay puts your own words on top of a video. It costs no credits.

Where to find it

  • In the Workflow: the Text step, after Video. Press Add text and continue (Continue without text if you typed none).
  • In a formula: turn on Text overlay in the run panel. With several products you can use the same text for every video, or different text for each product.

What you can set

  • Up to 5 text boxes, each up to 120 characters. Press + Add text box for another.
  • Bold outline or Boxed (a solid rounded box behind each line).
  • Left, centre or right alignment, and a size from 24 to 160.
  • Text colour, and outline or box colour, from nine colours each.
  • Drag a box to move it, pull its sides to change its width, or its corner to scale the text.
  • Insert {product} puts the product's short title in the text, so one design works for many products.

A switch under the preview, on from the start, keeps your text clear of the buttons and captions the TikTok app draws over a video. Turn it off to place text anywhere in the frame.

Presets

Save a look with Save as preset and use it again later. In the Workflow, Last used brings back your last text.

Good to know

  • The text shows for the whole video. Emoji aren't supported and are left out.
  • The clean video and the one with text are both kept in your Library.
  • If the text fails to render, you still have the clean video, and nothing was charged.
  • A workspace can add text to 200 videos a day.
